Eight of Wands

Eight of Wands

“Time and tide wait for no man.”
— Geoffrey Chaucer

Quick succession, momentum, communication, action

Overview

Once you pull the trigger, you can’t take back the bullet

Once your action or words have been executed, they cannot be undone. Things seem to be moving chaotically quick. As much control as you have over this situation, there are always some mannerisms that come unraveled. You locked your target and executed your objectives. There is nothing left for you to do now but prepare for a kill shot if this one doesn’t go through and through.

Symbolism

Eight wands appear to be flying through the air, from left to right through a blue sky. Behind the staffs, a small kingdom sits on a hilltop, the road to which meets a river.

Meaning

Chaotic Combo

Personally I like to look at the 8 of wands a lot like a chariot— which is like DPS (Damage per second) build in a video game. It’s events moving quickly through a series to reach the conclusion. Either you’re going to hit and that combo number will keep rising— or you’ll miss. If you miss, you’re more apt to be caught up and fall, so focus on your action and don’t yield to overwhelm.

Swift communication

There’s a message coming in for you. Whether or not you expect this is irrelevant. The eight of Wands is notoriously the sign that you’ll be hearing on a matter very shortly. The surrounding suit will tell you where this message will come from, and what it will regard. Any Major Arcana present will speak to whether or not it is of great importance, or simply a casual conversation.

Calculated intention

If you carefully planned your intention, the first shot should end the war without issue. Maintain your composure and plan your next moves accordingly. This could become your greatest victory or hardest downfall, depending on how much you push for what you want.

Keep sharp

Stay alert, seek opportunities to restore balance amidst the chaos. From this point forward, fully commit to every task and advance. These actions will shape your character, so complete them entirely. This card may also represent air travel.

Be Sure of your Shot

Steadily pull that bow string back, archer. Strike with precision and confidence. Once you initiate an action, you cannot undo it. Avoid wasting precious ammunition on an unsure shot; it’s not worth it. If you decide to do it, commit completely. If you’re going to be foolish, do it with confidence.

You’ve taken your chance, and now the results will arrive swiftly. This card generally signifies rapid progress in life’s plot. It indicates a period when events will suddenly accelerate. Do not let this unsettle your clear mind. You must maintain precise accuracy until the final round of ammunition. Always make the last shot a smart one.

Eight of Wands reversed

You may delay, but time will not.
– Benjamin Franklin

Delays, miscommunication, obstacles, unkempt energy

Meaning

Zero Hesitation

Don’t let cold feet stop you now; take action. You hinder your own progress in this endeavor by putting yourself down and doubting your sharp abilities. You might question whether this is the right decision.

Wise seeing wise action

Make a sharp call and make it soon. The moment you execute your action, things will develop quickly, so it’s best to keep a level head.

Work hard then execute

Conversely, this card reversed can tell you to be diligent prior to acting. Cover all your bases and make sure this is really what you want. All is fair in love and war, and there’s no take backs.

Chaotic Energy

You’re struggling to focus your energy on your intentions alone. Take something time to reevaluate this new direction to avoid continued hesitancy.

No Take backs

As much as you attempt to back peddle, the damage is already done. You can’t take it back despite your best efforts and any attempt to do so will be an uphill battle

Delay in vital communications

There’s been a hang up in an inevitable communication between you and someone else. Whatever decision was about to be made, has been reconsidered. Continue working hard and you will see the fruits of your labor flourish. The word just won’t come as quickly as you would have hoped.
