Seven of Wands

Seven of Wands

If our house be on fire… we must try to extinguish it”.
-Thomas Jefferson

Courage, defending your position, resilience, standing your ground

Overview

Defending the title

Not everyone is going to agree with you or align with what you think is right. This is symbolic of defending everything you have obtained. Everything you worked for is with you on top of the world you created. A lot of people are opposed to your creation, or they are simply envious of your new status in life. They are willing to go to some pretty terrifying lengths to get you off your throne.

Generally the Seven of wands is the card of defense whether that’s your reputation, character, or in a career that is heavily saturated with competition. There’s no shame in studying your opponents to get the upper hand.

Symbolism

A man in a green tunic grips a wand in both hands, facing it downward towards many other staffs raised against him. He is standing on a green hill which meets the blue sky. His face says it all, he’s determined to defend his position which he rightfully obtained. The staffs seem disembodied, symbolizing the enemies may not have a face— and may not be people you know at all.

Meaning

Validation to fight back

Defend your honor and all you have obtained, this is not something you should let be taken from you so easily. The day you accept defeat is the day you lose it all, including yourself. Remember the same ignition source that brought you here, what inspired you to come this far. Imagine everything you’ve dealt with, nothing could hold a candle to this one but accumulatively they are a larger monster.

Diplomatic approach

Diplomacy is necessary here, and if you are tired you can rest but seek solace somewhere you can let your guard down. This is going to be the first major adversity of many. It is absolutely prudent that you believe in yourself, and what you have created.

Attempts to steal your victory

It took trials and tribulations to get here, and now these fools are riding on your coat tails? They are using the foot holes in your hill to conquer you. They’re climbing the tower using the system you designed, and they’re trying to overthrow you.

Jealousy

There may be real opposition from a group of people who don’t want to see you succeed or want to see themselves in your shoes. Be careful with these traitors.

Consistency

Stay consistent as you’ve always been, and as impenetrable, bulletproof. The title will remain yours for a while longer. There will always be someone bigger, stronger, or better than you at your own game. Not everyone is going to like or agree with what you’re doing.

Speculation

This card holds the sensation of someone watching you. It feels like there’s a secret enemy somewhere and there very well maybe. Take stock, and don’t reveal any of your trade secrets.

-Fredrick the Great

Overwhelmed, Misplaced defensiveness,, surrender

Put the gun down, Annie.

Misplaced Defensiveness

It’s time to put the weapon down. What began as defending yourself against adversaries has become defending yourself against innocent bystanders. Everyone is taking a hit from your viciousness. You’re not only safeguarding yourself but your own path to joy.

Overwhelm

Constant onslaughts of criticism is stealing sleep from you. This isn’t just withstanding opposition anymore, it’s creating chaos within yourself. It’s ok to take a step back, but whatever you do don’t turn around. Just assess what it is you’re defending, and how to do so best. Don’t leave yourself open for attack.

There are prettier hills to die on

While this maybe something that you are passionate about and invested in, it’s not worth anyone dying over. You may be taking your defensiveness to far. Through all the struggle you’ve experienced to obtain the title, you’ll yield to no one in the more sacrificial slaughter of your reputation.

Appearing the Loser

While you maybe slaughtering them, what are you doing to yourself? You can’t just keep running chaotically toxic like this. Nuclear power plants melt down, and so do humans. Don’t put yourself in that position.
