There’s no story if there isn’t some conflict. The memorable things are usually not how pulled together everybody is. I think everybody feels lonely and trapped sometimes. I would think it’s more or less the norm.
– Wes Anderson

Overview
Conflicts and Competition
There’s a fight brewing, as tensions rise. The Five of wands is a fight for dominance, as everyone surrounds the king of the hill.
Physical altercation, friendly debates, or heavy conflicts surround the meaning of this card. Child’s play or heated arguments aside, who will be the victor and who will fall to the real king?

Symbolism
Four people are standing around a single person in red, all with staffs swinging wildly. Each of them have their legs in a wide stable stance besides one who appears to be cocking his staff back for a mighty blow. The two men in green seem to be at the defense of the man in red, and have coordinating outfits. They stand atop of a sloped hill with a blue sky behind them.
Meaning
There are several ways to interpret this card, but the biggest theme is that there is a competition in your wake for the title. Whatever that title is, it’s the one you are driven to obtain for one reason or another. Right now, you are butting heads with opposing forces, which maybe a force you can or can’t see. They could be someone you may or may not even know or be aware of. In love, you might not be the only option. In business, there maybe people you don’t even know who are sharing the same idea as you.
Fights, arguments, disagreements
This could be seen as literal conflict, an argument or confrontation of some kind. Despite all of this, it says that your force of will and personality will bring you farther than your competition. They have no chance with the shadow that your presence casts over them. Manifest your confidence, read the social cues of the situation. Elegantly execute the competition with one fell swoop.
Cut Throat but not enough
While the opposition is cutthroat, they are not nearly as clever, observant, or intelligent as you are. It’s like these people have followed the script you’ve read, seen, and experienced a thousand times.
That’s where you come in; compared to you, everyone else seems drought. Bring the confidence, wear your power suit, rock whatever ship you’re trying to sail. Learn where the line is and push it just enough to exhilarate and amaze everyone around you.
Bring your authenticity, wit, charisma and confidence and this competition will be over before it even started.
Childs play
The Five of wands also symbolizes playful competition. Sports, childhood games like tag, or anything that brings back solid memories of the past.
In its driest form has a few different meanings. Child’s Play, Competition, Conflict. Regardless, it’s a very “King of the Hill” card. Trying to be the first one to reach the top. To the point, this is fun for you.

No Dice

This maybe a competition out of your league. Especially if you’re not willing to up your ante beyond what you’re comfortable navigating effectively. If you will this, it won’t be via the process of elimination. It would be out of pure luck, and good fortune.
Unprepared
You are unprepared and unarmed. When you stepped up to this plate, what you thought was just a pitcher is an entire army. The competition is more saturated than you expected. Every single one of them has everything to gain from your loss.
Hidden Enemies
These enemies may not even be known to you. This situation could be the result of many candidates. You didn’t stick out enough or weren’t animated enough. Perhaps it was an “eye of the beholder” gig, or a personality conflict. Who knows?
Find alternative routes
Dialing it back and taking stock in other options is the best choice in this endeavor. You’re losing this one.
Someone has a bone to pick
Someone has a bone to pick with you, and you may not even know it. While you are blissfully unaware, someone is side eyeing you with absolute disdain. There are two choices: Keep doing what you’re doing and let the conflict happen or be a little more graceful in your dealings. When someone suddenly gets a little warmer with you, you’ll know exactly where the problem resides.
Being fought over
Ever hear the saying “Your name is being brought up in rooms you’ve never been in?” That’s this card in its reversal. Little do you know, someone is having an argument about you, or gossiping about you. They are likely doing so with someone who you are close to, attempting to drive a wedge between your commodore. There’s nothing you can do about your blind spots. If you ask the right questions, you may get the intel you’re seeking.
